The Internet of Sustainability Data

How the Internet of Sustainability Data in Web 3.0 will fill the emerging global Sustainability Reporting Framework with life and create Great Business Opportunities

Publication date:

Our reflections (July 2026)

Reliable data is becoming essential to turning circular economy ambition into practical business action.
This white paper examines how trusted, standardised and interoperable sustainability data can support circular economy implementation, supply-chain transparency, carbon management and more informed business decision-making. It explores emerging data ecosystems - including Catena-X - and explains why organisations must increasingly collaborate across value chains rather than manage sustainability information through disconnected internal systems.
Although published in 2022, its central argument is even more relevant today. Digital Product Passports, product-level carbon-footprint data and secure cross-company data exchange are moving from emerging concepts towards practical infrastructure and regulatory requirements.
The paper therefore provides useful strategic context for leaders considering how digital traceability, reliable sustainability data and cross-value-chain collaboration can strengthen compliance, circularity, operational resilience and long-term competitiveness.
The paper closely reflects the CETS Value approach: connecting circularity, commercial value and resilience through better information and better decisions.

Soraya Kadra, Co-founder and Executive Director of CETS Value, is one of the paper’s co-authors, contributing expertise in circular economy implementation and international sustainable business transformation
